In the Regeneration - the man-made messiah

Chapter October 18, 2012

The President glanced across at the bank of screens – excited faces beamed back at him from Mumbai, London, Jerusalem… Jakarta, Brasilia, Athens…

“Three weeks ago, when I began to contemplate this speech, I couldn’t imagine the changes we’d see since then. In three short weeks we’ve brokered a truce, quadrupled our donations to charities, de-activated our nuclear weapons and lifted ourselves into a tremendous state of anticipation. Who would ever have believed these things could have been accomplished so quickly? In a mere speck of time we’ve demonstrated to ourselves, and the universe, that we can do it – we can change for the better!”

Rome, Istanbul, Berlin…

“Now, I don’t want to spoil this by reminding us that we still have a long way to go. We all know that. Let’s just rejoice in the optimism of the moment. Who would ever have believed, at the start of the year, that we’d be doing this at Christmas!”

Paris, Kiev, Cairo…

“People around the world have embraced this idea with more spirit, excitement and anticipation than any event in history. Humanity is finally of one mind, finally prepared to make an appeal that is far greater, and infinitely more exciting than anything we have ever attempted before.”

Beijing, Tehran, Tokyo…

“Ladies and gentlemen of the world, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your commitment to this idea.”
